Welcome to Povo, an ever-expanding encyclopedia of knowledge on cities, towns, neighborhoods, and blocks. We’re much more than just a local directory or review site. Povo is a place where locals can share–and gather—firsthand insights about anything and everything.
<div class="p"></div>All of our content is generated and entirely editable by people like you. So venture in. Pick a neighborhood or block. <div class="p"></div>Weymouth is a city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. As of the 2000 census, Weymouth had a total population of 53,988. Despite its city status, it is formally known as the Town of Weymouth.
<div class="p"></div>Weymouth was heavily involved in the shoemaking industry from the first years of the 1700s right through to 1973, when the Stetson Shoe Company closed its doors.
<div class="p"></div>Dwellers in Weymouth often designate which part of the town they live in through four distinct official 'districts'. South Weymouth is mostly south of Route 3. The Ukelele Museum is in the neighborhood. East Weymouth is situated somewhat in the center of Weymouth, including Whitman's Pond, Jackson Square, and Town Hall. East Weymouth has several fine examples of Victorian homes, including Queen Anne, shingle, and colonial revival homes. The last two unofficial districts, the Landing and North Weymouth often overlap one another, though Weymouth Landing is usually considered to span a mile around Weston Park. North Weymouth is considered as everything above East Weymouth and the Landing, including Great Esker Park and Wessagussett Beach. The Abigail Adams Historical Society is located there.
<div class="p"></div>There is a growing Brazilian community, with a Brazilian market in Weymouth Landing, Brazilian restaurants and churches.<a href="#cite-note-1">[1]</a>
